OMC-FLASH Release 4.5.0 Deepens JES2-JES3 Spool Control

OMC-FLASH 4.5.0 Delivers the Powerful Capabilities You Want & Need to Better Manage Your Critical JES2 / JES3 Resources, all in one Cost-Effective JES-Neutral Solution...

Following are Highlights of the Extensive OMC-FLASH 4.5.0 Release Enhancements:

  • New BATCH Processing Utility allows users to efficiently execute OMC-FLASH functions in BATCH mode. The new facility includes batch COPY capabilities enabling users to efficiently copy data from large jobs without the associated TSO Session delays. An OPRLOG and SYSLOG function are included to access the Operator Log and System Log to copy records to specified output files in batch.
  • New BATCH FIND and RFIND Facilities enable users to perform batch FIND operations, with RFIND options to process multiple jobs with the same name or characteristics, and SORT and TOP functions to control the order of jobs to be searched. An EXITIF parameter is also provided to terminate processing based on the value returned by any previous function.
  • Expanded JOB Selection, Sort, and OPERLOG Features provide users with expanded capabilities to select jobs for inclusion on the JSP by any field available for the job. Users also have full flexibility to sort OMC-FLASH displays by simply placing the cursor on the column heading and pressing Enter to switch the sort order between ascending and descending. In addition, the new Jobname, JobID, and MessageID parameters are now available as selection criteria in the OMC-FLASH OPERLOG display.
  • USS Status Display Capabilities now enable OMC-FLASH users to display USS processes in both JES2 and JES3 through a dynamic table display with left/right scrolling and customization capabilities, as well as support for USS-related line commands.
  • Global and Local SYSLOG Display Options allow users to specify their preferred SYSLOG option directly on the Selection Criteria Panel (SCP). Users simply enter the correct parameter to display the desired SYSLOG job as follows:

    • Display only the Global SYSLOG
    • Display only the SYSLOG of the Local(s)
    • Display only the SYSLOG of the system you're currently on
    • Display both the Global and Local SYSLOG
  • Expanded OMC-FLASH COPY Options enable COPY panel users to include an output statement name, formdef, and pagedef to be used in processing the COPY operation. Users also have the option to save the output statement, formdef, and pagedef variables with their COPY profile for future copy operations.
  • Enhanced Print Command Parameters and Profiles allow users entering the Print (P) and Requeue (R) commands to optionally include a third parameter between 0-9 to indicate the specified print profile should be loaded. Print profiles numbered from 0-9 can be saved, stored, modified, and recalled for execution whenever users desire to initiate customized print processing. If a specific print profile is not specified, default CLASS and DEST parameters are used to complete print requests.

OMC-FLASH 4.4.0 Delivers Impressive New Capabilities for Both JES2 and JES3 Users

New OMC-FLASH 4.4.0 delivers an impressive set of new capabilities and enhancements for BOTH JES2 and JES3 users, providing expanded control over JES resources and workflow, and more flexible management of JOB and OUTPUT processing that enables users to work smarter and faster. Highlights of OMC-FLASH Release 4.4.0 enhancements include:

Consolidated JES2 and JES3 Support in One JES-Neutral Release

OMC-FLASH Release 4.4.0 supports both JES2 and JES3 in one powerful, JES-neutral solution that includes all functionality of previous OMC-FLASH releases, and extensive new features based on the available JES2 or JES3 subsystem capabilities.

JES3 Workload Manager Scheduling Environment Display and Resource Control Panel

OMC-FLASH 4.4.0 now displays the Scheduling Environments defined to the JES3 Workload Manager (WLM), including each scheduling environment defined in the SYSPLEX along with each job executing or scheduled for execution. The new Scheduling Environment Resource panel displays the status of each JES3 resource and enables users to easily reset or modify resource status to control jobs throughout the JES3 complex.

JES3 Initiator GROUP and JES3 DJ NET Display and Control Capabilities

The JES3 Initiator Display panel now includes the GROUP MODE field to indicate whether a group is managed by JES3 or WLM. Users can switch control of the group between JES or WLM as necessary, and select whether the display should include both groups and jobs, or only groups, and if active jobs should be included or excluded from the display.

The new JES3 DJC NET panel enables users to modify DJC nets and to display jobs in the DJC jobs display. The new panel displays NET-ID, total number of jobs completed or resubmitted, and any missing successors. In addition, the panel enables users to cancel, flush, and hold the NET and associated output.

Multiple COPY Profiles for Rapid Output Processing

OMC-FLASH 4.4.0 enables users to define multiple COPY profiles containing different COPY processing parameters for many types of output. Up to 10 unique COPY profiles can be saved and each unique profile can be easily applied whenever desired.

New Configuration Facility to Customize Panel Layout, Colors, and Highlight Specific Job and Output Conditions

Release 4.4.0 provides fully configurable Jobname Selection Panel (JSP), Data Set Index Panel (DIP), and JES3 Initiator displays through the new CONFIG facility. CONFIG users can select which fields to display, re-title field headings, set column size and position, freeze columns, and specify highlight colors and styles to apply to specific output that matches user-defined criteria. Users can define and save multiple unique CONFIG profiles that can be re-loaded on demand, or the OMC-FLASH Administrator can set an installation-wide configuration profile as the default for all users.

The OMC-FLASH 4.4.0 JSP now displays many new fields to provide expanded job and system information including Service Class, Scheduling Environment, SRB usage, TCB usage, Procedure STEPNAME, current STEP number (JES3 only) and total STEP count (JES3 only).

Users can now overtype the displayed value on the JSP, DIP, and JES3 Initiator Panels to change job attributes, and new pop-up windows now provide expanded job information, enabling users to change job attributes directly within the pop-up windows.

MVS, JES, and OMC-FLASH Command Processing Directly within
OMC-FLASH Panels

Authorized 4.4.0 users can now issue MVS, JES, or OMC-FLASH primary commands directly from the Command Line within the OMC-FLASH panels to expedite command processing.

SMP/E Installation Enhancements

OMC-FLASH 4.4.0 SMP/E installation jobs now produce complete, easily accessible records including installation date, components selected, and maintenance applied.

OMC-FLASH Release 4.3.0 Expands JES3 Spool Management Capabilities

OMC-FLASH Release 4.3.0 for JES3 is now available and includes major enhancements that expand SYSLOG viewing and management capabilities, provide MVS OPERLOG viewing facilities, and deliver increased ease-of-use and customization options. OMC-FLASH Release 4.3.0 feature highlights include:

Facilities to View the MVS OPERLOG:

OMC-FLASH 4.3.0 provides users with expanded SYSLOG viewing to include the MVS OPERLOG across multiple MVS systems in a SYSPLEX environment.

Initiator Display Enhancements:

The Initiator display within OMC-FLASH 4.3.0 dynamically supports LOGMODEs including MOD-2, MOD-3, and MOD-4, providing expanded ease of use across a variety of display modes.

JCL Error Display:

The Jobname selection list will indicate jobs which have abended with JCL errors, enabling users to rapidly locate problematic jobs which fail to execute.

Expanded Dataset Status Display:

OMC-FLASH will indicate the completion of dataset processing or printing on the Dataset Index panel, enabling users to determine individual dataset disposition at a glance.

Expanded SYSLOG Display and Management Capabilities:

  • The active SYSLOG viewing facility displays an expanded number of active SYSLOG lines, providing a more complete view of the active SYSLOG.
  • The SYSLOG facility provides dynamic support for multiple LOGMODEs, including MOD-2, MOD-3, MOD-4, and MOD-5, for expanded ease of use across a variety of display modes.
  • Numeric PFKEY scrolling (Left, Right, Up, and Down) is supported within the SYSLOG display, enabling users to more conveniently navigate and browse SYSLOG information.
  • Commands issued within the SYSLOG display conform to standard JES formats, providing seamless interaction with the operating system.

SMP/E Installation and Maintenance:

SMP/E-based installation and maintenance is provided for sites utilizing SMP/E compliant installation and support procedures.

CD Installation Option:

In addition to tape and cartridge options, the OMC-FLASH 4.3.0 installation package is also available on CD.
